Abstract: On the basis of analyzing the current situation and the development tendencies of agricultural engineering, the opportunity and challenge of introducing the agricultural engineering at a comprehensive university was approached. It was concluded that the developing aim of the agricultural engineering discipline, at comprehensive university, should be in accordance with the whole aim and philosophy of the university. Meanwhile, attention needs to be paid to the tendency towards interdisciplinary studies. The concern of the discipline itself, to follow forefront research area and advanced development in the world, should be its primary goal.
