Experimental study on improving ecological conditions through harvesting submerged plants in a vegetation rich lake

Abstract: The experiment was conducted by setting up a research site in a typical vegetation rich lake, lake Wuliangsuhai in Inner Mongolia, and carrying out a fairly large scale harvesting project of the submerged vegetation. Experimental results showed that harvesting submerged vegetation and transferring the elemental nutrients N and P will slow the accumulation of internal nutrient loads of lakes and will make the input and output of the elemental nutrients gradually come into balance. This technique noticeably prevented Bioaccumulation and is a key technique in reducing eutrophication of vegetation rich lakes. The systematic harvesting of submerged vegetation guarantees the function of improving water quality by submerged vegetation and does not result in algae overflow or influence the reproduction of submerged vegetation. The technique of harvesting submerged vegetation and transferring the elemental nutrients of N and P can continue indefinitely. While harvest submerged vegetation, biological restoration can also be accomplished. At the same time, a good source of high-protein hydrophyte animal feed is realized. This technique allows for harmony between lake management and development of aquatic resources while also promoting sustainable development of the environment and the regional economy.
