Potential soil salinization using Dempster-Shafer evidence theory

Abstract: Based on soil investigation data from Yucheng City in Shandong Province in 1980, using GIS (Geographic Information System) and Dempster-Shafer evidence theory, the probability of potential soil salinization affected by many factors was explored. In this paper, the authors make the best use of "J" model in fuzzy sets and Dempster-Shafer-Weight-of-Evidence which carries out combination of factors affecting soil salinization, in order to estimate the reliability of soil salinization, and expert knowledge was used to evaluate these evidences affecting soil salinization. The probability surface map of soil potential salinization of Yucheng City was obtained. The results show that the distribution of salinization land has not only spatial variability, but also consistency, that is to say, at the premise of the same topography and certain distance, it has large probability of the area where salinization is likely to occur. Groundwater mineralization and groundwater depth are the two key factors to soil potential salinization.
