Abstract: At present, the research on environmental evaluation for landin China is seldom reported. Based on the foreign experience about environmental evaluation of land, the authors took the city of Hangzhou as an example, and then applied the land environmental evaluation in land planning, and finally gavesome suggestions on land use in China. In this paper, the authors chose biodiversity, content of underground water, content of soil organic matter, topography, atmosphere environment quality as evaluation factors. According to the weighting coefficients of evaluation factors in environmental evaluation, the environment sensitive area of Hangzhou was divided into three parts based on GIS technique. Finally, the selection of indices in land environmental evaluation, policy-making, ex ante appraisal and ecological recovery, etc., for Hangzhou city weresuggested.
