Abstract:
Pump station operation could be suffered from different type of free surface and submerged vortexes. For investigating the applicability of different turbulence models in numerical simulation of vortex in pump sump, numerical simulations were carried in an open pump sump model with standard k-? model, RNG k-? model and Realizable k-? model. Streamlines and vorticity magnitude of the vortex in the sump were achieved and compared with the experiment. The results show that the Realizable k-? model predicts the locations and vorticity of free surface vortex, sidewall attached vortex and floor attached vortex more accurately than the other two models.
