Abstract:
In order to prepare bio-char briquette with easier storage and transportation and better combustion performances, both modified corn and cassava starch adhesives were employed and the effects of adhesive contents on the compression resistance, shatter resistance, calorific value, and ash content of bamboo charcoal briquettes were investigated. Results showed that the compression resistance and shatter resistance were significantly improved with starch adhesive content in the range of 10%-30%. However, the influence of adhesive content on the calorific value and ash content was not obvious. The compression resistance and shatter resistance of cassava starch based briquette were larger than that based on corn starch under the same adhesive ratio. Bio-char briquette with optimal performances was obtained using 25% cassava starch adhesives.
