    Viscometers for Edible Vegetable Oil

    • Four different kinds of viscometers, i e. the Engler viscometer, the capillary viscometer, the rolling sphere viscometer and the falling-cylinder viscometer were compared in the viscosity measurement of 8 different kinds of edible vegetable oils. The rolling-sphere and the falling-cylinder typies of viscometers were designed by the authors. While the capillary viscometer was purchased in the market. The Engler viscometer was used as a reference to varify the reliabilities of the newly designed ones. The measured data were analysed by means of statistics. The result of the study showed that the Engler viscometer is convenient to be used in industrial tests, the falling-cylinder viscometer is suggested to be used in commodity tests, the capillary viscometer is suitable for edible vegetable oil anglysis in laboratories, while the rolling-sphere viscometer is the cheapest and can be used with liquids of medium viscosity.
