Plasticization of Corn Starch and Properties of Onetime Meal Containers Made of Injection of Thermoplastic Starch

    • Adding the plasticizer into corn starch prepared themoplastic starch, and biodegradable one-meal containers were made by thermoplastic starch. The best content of three plasticizers was affirmed, the essence of plasticization of starch was found with IR and X-ray. Furthermore, mechanical, hygiene and biodegradable properties of the once meal containers made of thermoplastic starch were discussed. The results showed that the best content of plasticizer is 15% of water, 5% of glycero and 5% of ethylene glycol when starch is changed into thermoplasticstarch. Vice-bond was broken and starch crystal was destroyed. The one-time meal containers of thermoplastic starch characteristics comparable to paper meal container or plastic meal container in mechanical and hygiene properties. But the former has characteristics of rapid biodegradability. The conclusion in the research will provide theoretical foundation and practical reference for manufacturing biodegradable one-time meal containers by starch and eliminating “white pollution”.
