Establishment of Commercial Postharvest Handling System for Longan Fruit

This paper set up postharvest handling system for longan fruit, which was based on the international research results on postharvest technology of longan fruit, with emphasis on the Chinese and Thai perspectives. Techniques of postharvest handling system for longan fruit such as selecting cultivars for better storage and transport features, harvest maturity and harvesting method, sorting and grading, antiseptic dipping or SO₂ fumigation, quarantine treatment such as insect disinfestations, precooling, packaging, storage, transport and marketing were introduced. The existing problems in postharvest handling for longan fruit and the further research fields which are needed in the future were pointed out.
