Influence of improved environmental conditions of stall floors on incidence rate of foot and limb injuries among sows

    • Poor environmental conditions in stall floors was the key factor affecting the health of feet and limbs of sows. Incidence rate of foot and limb injuries among sows raised for a long time in various types of stall was investigated .The results show that the incidence rate of foot and limb injuries among sows raised on cold and hard cement ground, discretely arranged cement floor board, partly discretely arranged cement floor board and simple energy-saving floor was 37.7%, 30.5%, 25%, 5.81%, respectively. The best stall floor is a simple energy-saving floor with improved material and structure of floor board .The incidence rate of foot and limb injuries among sows raised on them decreased by 70%~80%. The results suggest that a good way to improve environmental conditions is by changing the material and structure of floor boards.
