Present status and developing strategy of agricultural mechanization in Southwest China

    • Southwest China has the lowest level of agricultural mechanization in the country. This is due to its unfavorable geographic conditions, backward economic situation and large rural population. Measures to be taken to improve this status under new circumstances were put forward in this paper as follows: to take advantage of China's joining the WTO, in line with the local conditions, to adopt correct developing strategy——rational selection of farm machinery, mechanization technologies and key mechanized processes, correct use of experience of foreign countries and China's other regions for reference, integration of relevant technologies, measures and policies and innovation in mechanization technologies, management and popularization of farm machinery, construction of service system, as well as relevant measures and policies; to develop agricultural mechanization through agricultural industrialization, information technology and appropriate technology; to enhance R & D; to strengthen the construction of rural infrastructure. In addition, there is a need to establish a national system of laws and policies for agricultural mechanization.
