Mechanical characteristics and the finite element analysis of grapes

    • The mechanical model of single grape was established in this paper. The finite element analysis was carried out. The module of elasticity of grape flesh was determined by means of comparing the calculated results by the model with the measured results. Furthermore, the stress distribution of inner grape was obtained under the compressed load. The foundation for the microcosmic tissue damage of fruit and vegetable was laid. It can be concluded that the crack of skin is the macroscopic breakage form of grape and the maximal tensile stress is the main factor causing the mechanical damage of grape through comparing the model calculation with the experimental results.
