Growth and stem flow variation of cucumber in greenhouse

    • Effects of solar radiation, air temperature, and humidity on the growth and stem flow variation of Europe type “Chunqiuwang” and South China type “Huza No.6” are studied, using plant physiology monitoring system named Phytalk made in Israel. The results showed that higher temperature can accelerate increase of stem diameter and expand of fruit when water service is enough. Diurnal variation of stem flow has a clear rhythm, the day-to-day variant trend of stem flow is similar to diurnal variation. Stem flow is greatly affected by solar radiation, air temperature, and humidity. Europe type cucumber variety has quicker growth rate and more stem flow than “Huza No.6”.
