    Structural designs and experiments of depositional ponds in the loess region of western Shanxi Province

    • To solve the problem of silt deposition in depositional pond, six kinds of depositional ponds were designed in considering the material conditions of the region and the deposition dynamics of silts, their structures were simple and practical. Based on the experiments of artificial simulation rainfall at different rainfall intensities, the allocated artificial rainwater catching is uncovered and tamped with a loess slope of about 5°, and the initial moisture content is 8%~15%, the dry soil density is 1.40~1.60 g/cm3 at the slope surface, the best results of silt depositions are the depositional ponds of No.Ⅴand No.Ⅵ, their efficiencies are 89.38% and 92.28%, and exceed No.Ⅰ's by about 20%, so the structures are more rational. Ihis is a beneficial study for the practical use of depositional pond in future.
