Abstract
The technology of swirl separation is a newly-developed pollution control technology for removing solid pollution in water. By improving the traditional hydrocyclone, a new kind of swirl separator, which is small, convenient to install and can be used in the municipal sewage disposal has been designed. In this paper the authors discuss the technology by numerical simulation with the CFD software FLUENT, using the realizable K-ε model and DPM model. According to the simulation, the distribution of both dynamic and static pressure and the contour of tangential, axial and radial velocity can be obtained. Also it could be concluded that although it is not good at classification, this kind of new swirl separator can reach a high separation efficiency at 66%. Based on the simulation result the authors give the key to the design of this kind of new swirl separator.
