Comparison of the degerming effects between metal membrane and filter paper for apple juice filtration

    • Effects of removing bacteria from apple juice using metal membrane and filter paper were compared. Results show that the change of color values of apple juice filtrated by metal membrane is not distinct, the greatest decrease of color value is 2%. Moreover, the change of color values of apple juice filtrated by filter paper is distinct, the lowest decrease of color value is 7%; The effects of metal membrane and filter paper on the turbidity of juice are distinct, the lowest reductions of turbidity are 70% and 48% respectively. Both 0.05 μm metal membrane and filter paper can meet the need of removing microorganisms from apple juice, and the apple juice quality filtrated by metal membrane is better than that by filter paper. Metal membrane possesses the properties of acid-resisting, alkali-resisting, chlorine-resisting, heat-resisting and high pressure-resisting. Therefore, metal membrane has a potential ability to replace paper-filtration.
