Effect of orchard sprayer shield on spray range

Abstract
Fou the purpose of reducing the droplet drift caused by wind in the process of fruit tree pesticide spraying, methods of introducing shields were testified to be economical and efficient. Six different kinds of mechanical spray shields were designed and tested in this study. Spraying experiments using two different kinds of nozzles made by Ikeuchi at the speeds of 0.51, 1.21, 1.91, 2.60, 3.30 and 4.00 km/h were carried out in a tightly sealed laboratory for effectiveness tests of the foils. The spray range and droplets uniformity using each shield and without shield were tested. Results of this study indicate that, spray range increased by 1.3%~13.2% and 9.1%~17.3% averagely when using shield #4 as compared with other shields and no shield for these two different kinds of nozzles.
