Abstract
Due to the shortage of fresh water, exploitations of brackish water become very important for mitigating water shortage for farmland irrigation. To study the infiltration process of the brackish water, one dimensional infiltration experiments were conducted in laboratory. The changes of the cumulative infiltration with time under different mineralization degrees were analyzed, and the water content of the soil profile was simulated based on a algebraic model for one dimensional infiltration. Results show that the simulation results are well matched with the measured results. The Green-Ampt model was also used to process the experimental data. Results show that it can also be used to describe the brackish water infiltration process. Therefore the two models can be applied to calculate parameters. However, the Green-Ampt model can generate more accurate results in the case of long duration infiltration.
