Abstract
To study the responses of maize roots to water stress, characteristics of plant growth and physiological in maize regenerative plants under water stress at different development stages were systemically studied. The photosynthesis rate, transpiration rate, intercellular CO2 concentrations, and stomatal conductance were all high under water stress at the regenertive plants from hairy root culture in maize. Under water stress condition, whole root hydraulic conductivity of regenerative plants from hairy root culture decreased by 13.2%, H99 decreased by 84.7%. Water content of vegetative organs increased and leaf osmotic adjustment ability enhanced. The results showed that the regenerative plants from hairy root culture in maize with strong root system can provide guarantee for plant water supply and photosynthesis during growth and developmental stages.
