Effect of irrigation with reclaimed water on soil salt and ion content in Beijing

Abstract
In order to promote safe irrigation with reclaimed water for preventing soil salinisation, field experiments were conducted to research the effects of different irrigation durations with reclaimed water on soil salt. The results showed that the irrigation durations of reclaimed water imposed little effect on electrical conductivities and pH value of soils in various depths. Soil sodium ratio (SAR) increased with it, but SAR is still in the scope of the feasible range. The contents of Na+, Mg2+, K+, and Cl- in one meter soils column increased due to reclaimed water irrigation, which changed slightly in the soil depth from zero to forty centimeters and increased significantly in the soil depth from forty centimeters to eighty centimeters. The results showed that soil salt tended to penetrate outside of tillage layer by precipitation leaching. There is low risk in soil sanitation with reclaimed water irrigation.
