Capacity optimization of hybrid energy storage units in wind/solar generation system

Abstract
Through allocating suitable capacity of battery-ultracapacitor hybrid storage unit, the continuity and reliability of wind-solar complementary generation system could be improved. Based on the steady-state models of wind power, solar power, battery and ultracapacitor, the capacity optimization model of the battery-ultracapacitor hybrid system was established in this paper. Considering various constraints, the multi-objective optimization functions of battery- ultracapacitor hybrid system were proposed and solved with the genetic algorithm. With the example system, it demonstrated the correctness and validity of the proposed models and algorithms. The method can provide a reference for the capacity optimization of hybrid energy storage units in wind/solar generation system.
