Abstract
In order to investigate removal effects of Bidens frondosa on several pollutants in swine wastewater, experiments were carried out by aggregate culture to study the growth characteristics and removal rates of nitrogen and phosphorus of Bidens frondosa in swine wastewater. The results showed that the plant could grow normally in the wastewater with ammonia nitrogen concentration of 100 mg/L, and plant biomass dry weight was 245.8 g, its accumulated amount of nitrogen and phosphorus in individual plant was 5.63 and 0.42 g respectively. At the treatment capacity of 9 L and the hydraulic retention time (HRT) 7 d, the average removal rate of ammonia nitrogen, total nitrogen and COD were above 80% and the average removal rate of the total phosphorus was above 60% in the period vegetative growth and flower fruit of Bidens frondosa. Therefore, Bidens frondosa can be applied to constructed wetland, which had better bearing dirty ability and treatment performances on swine wastewater.
